Van Ceiling Panel – Part IV

In the previous video I was unsuccessful in attaching the ceiling panel with the 3M Dual Lock, velcro-type fastener. Today I have a different approach and use the van’s own hydraulic jack with an extension pole, to force the Dual Lock strips together.


It is a slow process, where I follow each of the two ceiling cross members from side to side and apply force to the panel where the strips of Dual Lock meet.

12V System Setup

Now the solar wiring is in the interior of the van, I still have to attach it to the breaker box and solar charge controller.

The #8 AWG wire transitions to a #6 AWG wire at the breaker box, to minimize voltage drop, and continues to the bus bars. Meanwhile, I clean up the wiring with cable ties.

I add a 12 count fuse block and connect the wiring to the bus bars. Then the roof vent is connected to the fuse block with a 16 gauge wire. The roof vent allows me to fully test this 12V system.

This minimal setup is now ready for the batteries, which is shown in the next video.

Roof Vent – MaxxAir 6200K

The roof vent in an integral part of the ventilation, cooling and insulation plans. Living in an RV, one constantly faces the issue of cooling & heating and lowering humidity levels. With only few choices, I decided to install a MaxxAir vent; its ability to remain open, when rain is pouring down, made it a clear winner over its competitor the Fan-Tastic vent.

These are the initial steps of installing a MaxxAir 6200K roof vent in the rear roof section of a 2016 Ford Transit LWB MR cargo van. I go really slow and show every bit of the work that’s involved in getting an acceptable result.
